Climbing  Mount Erice you can admire the view of the city of Trapani, the famous salt plains and the sea, with the Egadi Islands (Levanzo-Favignana-Marettimo) in the background.

Erice, sits on top of Mount San Giuliano, with intricate narrow alleys paved with stone, linking the various patios and courtyards of ancient houses with shops for coral, rug and pottery craftmanship. An atmosphere of yesteryear with its 6 churches and its fortifications takes you into the twelfth century, a time when the community of Elimi dominated the surrounding countryside from the top of this 750m Altitude. Erice today boasts the title of "City of Peace and Science" because of the Center of Scientific Culture Ettore Majorana direct by the prof. A. Zichichi.

Salt fields of Trapani in the wildlife reserve "La Stagnone"

The stretch of coastline between Trapani, Marsala and  Paceco is an area of considerable scenic, cultural, economic and natural interest. Known as "The Way of Salt" ("Via del sale"), it still maintains open air store of salt, some covered with terracotta tiles. Its windmills have been restored and the Museum of Salt - Nubia is a popular tourist destination

Situated in an area of water known as "Stagnone" is the island of San Pantaleo, where one can find the ancient city of Mothia. The island, colonized by the Phoenicians, is accessible by boat from a canal along the salt plains (in this stretch of sea, especially during low tides, you can see the road built on the bottom of the canal uniting the island with the mainland where there once was a Necropolis). Here is very interesting architecture such as asacred altar, the Cothon (a very rare example of a manmade Punic port) the archaic Necropolis, the sanctuary, the Museum and the House of Mosaics.

The event includes the development of various events: one where you collect the shepherds and their sheep, one where you can participate in the preparation of local cheeses, where you can see farms and various crafts from carpenters and farmers. Also in the holiday season, worthy of note is Fiaccolata's Eve:  where young people with local historical costumes form a  procession from the sanctuary to cave to the crib. The Madonna embodied by a young take part in local in the procession on horse.
